Primary or idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction Causes and Risks: The cause is unknown. The disorder is usually seen in teenagers and young adults. The intestine becomes distended, but no obstruction is found. Risk factors are unknown. Prevention: Prevention is unknown. Symptoms: Signs and Tests: Treatment: Nasogastric suction (placement of a tube through the nose and into the stomach; the tube is then attached to suction) is used to decompress the bowel. Intravenous fluids will replace fluids lost from vomiting . Special diets are usually ineffective. Prognosis: The disease may be recurrent.
