Estronol

Wild Mexican Yam

Estronol, or Wild Yam, are names given to Dioscorea Villosa, a plant found in abundance in Mexico.  Extracts of Dioscorea, as it is most commonly called, contain a steroidal saponin, or disosgenin, and other precursors that potentially serve as a basis for our body's production of DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone).

DHEA is a steroid-like hormone produced in the adrenal gland.  It is the most abundant hormone in the blood stream and is found in extremely high concentrations in the brain.  It is the "mother steroid" in that all other steroids and sex hormones are derived by DHEA in the body.  The function of DHEA seems to be to supply the body with what it needs to maintain optimum levels and balance of the hormones that regulate the body's activities.

Your body produces more DHEA than any other steroid or sex hormone.  The level of DHEA  peaks at about age 20 in both men and women, and then declines as you age.  As it declines, age-related diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, heart disease, and arthritis, begin.

DHEA has no know dangerous level of toxicity.  Dhea is a "precursor hormone".  That is, it can be converted by the body into estrogen, progesterone, cortisone, testosterone and all the other sex and steroid hormones.

A well-known doctor, in his newsletter, describes DHEA as, "Perhaps the most powerfull tool for improvement and maintenance of brain function."

Leading university studies by hormone experts came to a remarkable conclusion when significant statistical data confirmed that DHEA prolonged the normal life span.  When DHEA was fed to mice, it increased their life expectancy from 24 to 36 months (35 to 50 human years).  Not only did their physical activity increase greatly, but they had lower incidents of many of the traditional diseases of aging when compared to mice on a regular diet.

U.S. women have traveled across the Mexican border for years to purchase wild yam for female problems, abdominal cramps and bowel spasms, but most of all to use as a natural supplement during and after menopause.

The most surprising fact about this therapeutic agent is that it is virtually unused in modern medicine, even though there is good scientific evidence supporting its use.

Why does modern medicine ignore DHEA?   Because DHEA cannot be patented!  Most of the major drug companies are busy trying to cut up the DHEA molecule into pieces, patient them and sell them to you for specific problems.  DHEA has been called "the Mother Hormone" and is a "precursor hormone."  DHEA is used by your body to create more testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, and other steroid hormones that are essential to excellent health, and having sufficient levels of it is important.

The exciting part of the action of DHEA is that it may reverse many of the aspects of aging thought to be irreversible.
